She Listens to the Whispers of Nature

$0.00

My young model was having so much fun in my garden during our photo shoot. She giggled when an insect flew near her face and that shot inspired me to make this piece. I combined it with a hummingbird photo I took at the Denver Botanic Gardens at Chatfield. I experimented with using colored pencil on this one and utilized a previous practice collage by white washing over it and using it for the background.

I used a heavy treatment of paint and colored pencil over top of my printed photo. I was experimenting to see how much translucency I wanted, and this looks quite different than my later collage paintings. I love using outlines in my work. It adds emphasis and energy, and makes sure things are not photo-realistic, but have a crafted look.

2019 - 27” x 15” x 1”
Mixed Media: handmade papers and paper ephemera, my photography and digital art, oil paint on wood panel
